Dyeing is one of the most effective and popular methods used for colouring textiles and other materials. Dyes are employed in a variety of industries, from cosmetic production to the medical sector. The two volumes of the Handbook of textile and industrial dyeing provide a detailed review of the latest techniques and equipment used in the dyeing industry, as well as examining dyes and their application in a number of different industrial sectors. Volume 1 deals with the principles of dyeing and techniques used in the dyeing process, and looks at the different types of dyes currently available. Part one begins with a general introduction to dyeing, which is followed by chapters that examine various aspects of the dyeing process, from the pre-treatment of textiles to the machinery employed. Chapters in part two then review the main types of dyes used today, including disperse dyes, acid dyes, fluorescent dyes, and many others for a diverse range of applications.
Disperse blue 3 and disperse orange 1 dyes were subjected to an innovative process to convert them to a nanoscale size by sonication via an ultrasonic homogenizer. The obtained dyes were characterized by transmission electron microscopy TEM. Variable studies including sonicated and non-sonicated durations were used to optimize the sonication conditions. The effects of dye concentration, dyeing temperature, dyeing time, and carrier concentration were studied in terms of dye uptake and shade in dyed and printed fabrics. Additionally, in the transfer printing technique, the proper transfer fixation times were evaluated. To determine the significance of this treatment, analysis of variance was implemented via a two-way ANOVA test. The dyed and printed samples were evaluated for fastness properties.
Dyeing is the application of dyes or pigments on textile materials such as fibers , yarns , and fabrics with the goal of achieving color with desired color fastness. Dyeing is normally done in a special solution containing dyes and particular chemical material. Dye molecules are fixed to the fiber by absorption, diffusion, or bonding with temperature and time being key controlling factors. The bond between dye molecule and fiber may be strong or weak, depending on the dye used. Dyeing and printing are different applications; in printing, color is applied to a localized area with desired patterns. In dyeing, it is applied to the entire textile.

Embed Size px x x x x Abstract : Dyes have been extracted from natural resources since ancient times: the use of natural colourants poses no problems in terms of waste disposal and can provide a natural fi nish to textiles. The chapter fi rst discusses the classifi cation and chemistry of natural dyes, and then describes the ways in which they can be applied to textiles, relying on modern scientifi c advances to reintroduce biodegradable and environmentally friendly natural dyes. The practice of applying colour through dyeing and printing techniques has played a signifi cant role in every civilisation. Egyptian mummies and docu-ments from the Mughal periods in India bear witness to the early utilisation of natural dyes Ramakrishna,
Abstract : Cellulose is one of the most important textile materials. The colouration of cellulosic textile is a mature and highly effi cient industrial technology. This chapter fi rst discusses classifi cation, structure and properties of cellulosic fi bres, related to the dyeing of fabric containing this fi bre.
