Learning: Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSA)

The knowledge, skills, and abilities KSAs necessary for the successful performance of a position are contained on each job vacancy announcement. KSA statements are also known as Evaluation Factors. The name can be just a name but it often influences content and length of the essay. The scoring of KSA essays is often based on a ranking given to each individual essay, and there is often a cutoff score. High scores are derived through answering the KSA question as specifically as possible, providing examples from previous employment or training that clearly demonstrate the applicant meet the qualifications.

For example, in building and construction, you will require knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads. Ability is synonymous with capability, potential, or capacity.

All four directly affect the performance of an individual as well as an organization. Knowledge: condition of being aware of something. Attitudes: feelings or emotions about someone or something. Knowledge is the condition of being aware of something. It encompasses the cognitive or mental abilities to retain and process information.
