Plant stem cells, as in animals, are maintained in specialized microenvironments, which are known as stem cell niches, where local signals from organizer cells act to prevent stem cell differentiation.

4.7C: Comparing Plant and Animal Cells

Although they are both eukaryotic cells, there are unique structural differences between animal and plant cells. Each eukaryotic cell has a plasma membrane, cytoplasm, a nucleus, ribosomes, mitochondria, peroxisomes, and in some, vacuoles; however, there are some striking differences between animal and plant cells. While both animal and plant cells have microtubule organizing centers MTOCs , animal cells also have centrioles associated with the MTOC: a complex called the centrosome. Animal cells each have a centrosome and lysosomes, whereas plant cells do not. Plant cells have a cell wall, chloroplasts and other specialized plastids, and a large central vacuole, whereas animal cells do not. The centrosome is a microtubule-organizing center found near the nuclei of animal cells.

What are the differences between animal and plant cells?

Plant and animal cells have several differences and similarities. For example, animal cells do not have a cell wall or chloroplasts but plant cells do. Animal cells are mostly round and irregular in shape while plant cells have fixed, rectangular shapes. Plant and animal cells are both eukaryotic cells , so they have several features in common, such as the presence of a cell membrane, and cell organelles, like the nucleus, mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum. A difference between plant cells and animal cells is that most animal cells are round whereas most plant cells are rectangular.

Difference Between Plant Cell and Animal Cell

Both animal and plant cells are eukaryotic cells and have several similarities. The similarities include common organelles like cell membrane, cell nucleus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes and golgi apparatus. All living things are made up of units called cells. A cell, the basic unit of life, is a microscopic structure that forms the basic structural as well as functional unit of living organisms. Would you like to write for us?
