Information and Creative Technology, BTEC Level 2 Award

Reigate College specialises in providing high quality education for year old students in a supportive and caring community. The BTEC Level 2 Award in Information and Creative Technology ICT has been developed to inspire and enthuse students to become technology savvy and to become producers of technology and computer-based products and systems, rather than just end users.

This involves students creating technology-based products or systems. The Award is assessed internally by coursework assignments and externally by onscreen tests. Students must prove their ability to communicate in various ways and demonstrate professionalism in an IT setting.

This will be something that they demonstrate throughout the units of study. In the last couple of years, these have included:. The course is assessed internally on the basis of student portfolios and externally via an onscreen test.

The Award consists of three portfolio units, plus one onscreen test. The programme of study is varied and is designed to prepare students for the tasks they might face in an IT-related job.

Students will learn by completing projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands, and will build up a portfolio of evidence from the various activities they carry out.

A lot of the evidence will be written, but it will take a variety of forms, such as storyboards, annotated web pages, test plans, product review reports, reports for managers, posters and presentation handouts. A number of tasks will be assessed on the basis of observations of what the student has produced as part of a unit. In these cases the teacher will provide appropriate evidence such as observation sheets and witness statements.

In order to study this course, students will need a minimum of four GCSEs or equivalent at Grade 3 or above and a satisfactory school reference. In addition, students must have at least basic IT skills such as being able to use Microsoft Word and PowerPoint competently. They do not need to have studied IT, but must be competent at producing written work.

Applicants need to be aware that this is a technical subject rather than a general IT skills qualification. Students from partner schools Reigate, Warwick, de Stafford and Oakwood should complete an online application under the guidance of their school.

All other applicants should download and return the application form. Why choose Reigate College? However, during that time we have consistently challenged ourselves to ensure that they continue to represent the very best for learners in the progression opportunities they offer. The redevelopment of this qualification suite started in autumn and has been punctuated along the way by some of the most significant reforms to vocational education we have seen. The publication of Alison Wolfs review of vocational education in March set the context and standard for all new vocational qualifications to follow. Her views reflected many of our own, and those that you had given us, and has formed the basis of this next generation of qualifications.
